Current Apple Market Share

Dave Clark

I recently traveled from California to Hartford, CT on a biz trip. Sitting in the airport waiting room in Hartford for a fairly long delay, I counted ten laptop computers being used during the two or so hours I waited, including my own MacBookPro Intel. Five (5) of them were Apples!!!

10 computers is not indicative of much, but I doubt if 5 years ago I'd see one on a trip.

I made the switch to Mac (Intel) a year ago here at home after 20+ years with Dos/Windows, then my office in July. We have three Macs there, plus two more here at home. I'd never go back to Windoze.

If someone knows a website where info on market share can be had (e.g., number of Apples sold vs Windoze machines this year), I'd appreciate it.

Dave

Re: Current Apple Market Share

If "market share" is the same thing as "installed base", and if you
can measure "installed base" by looking at browser activity, then you
can see the results here:
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=5

Basically, the total installed base of Apple OS's (PPC and Intel)
grew from 4.33% to 6.38% over the course of the last 6 months.
Growth came at the expense of Microsoft whose declining base of
Windows 98 and Windows 2000 installations was not offset by new
installations with Vista (XP installations held steady).

How high will the Mac share get? My guess is about 15%, which it
would reach in about another 2 years. That's a worst case scenario.
