Wireless mouse rollerball; weird Word problem

Speaking of rollerball problems: I have one (and only one) Word
document, a nearly finished research article, in which the following
occurs. Moving through the text using the rollerball works for a few
seconds, then "freezes" (rolling no longer moves the cursor through
the document). Subsequently, clicking anywhere in the document (or
its window) causes an updating which runs rapidly through all of the
rollerball movements which were made after the freeze. The side
scrollbar works normally. The problem occurs with this document on
two different computers, a desktop iMac and my laptop, both Intel,
both with Apple's wireless mouse. Is this a one in a million thing,
or has anyone out there experienced this, too? I even selected All
and pasted to a new document: problem remains. Ditto, saving as rtf
and re-opening. This is driving me nuts! (System and Word versions
current and regularly updated.)

Same here, although in a Frech-Canadian environment (that should not be
a factor); I had not noticed the matter previosly, at least not to the
extent I am experiencing now, even on long documents, very lightly
formatted (30-50 pages).

I have upgraded my Office 2004 package, to the latest posted upgrade (
circa January 2007), and Mac OS X is in top shape.

If you find and answer— better, a solution, let me know.
