How to temporarily turn of TidBITS Auto Correct? kwbear (apparently) - 12:37pm Jan 13, 2007 PSTvia emailOn some occasions in Eudora I want to *intentionally* misspell a word that is in the Auto Correct Dictionary. Is there any simple, fast method, outside of uninstalling and then reinstalling?
[Unfortunately, I don't believe so. That's why it was an unsupported feature. -Adam]

How about temporarily turning off automatic spell checking under
'Settings' and/or adding the intentionally misspelt word to your user
dictionary?

Does it help if you paste in from another program, rather
than typing it directly into E?

Adam, thank you for the reply. Maybe in Eudora 7.0 or whatever name the reincarnation is given?

Re: How to temporarily turn of TidBITS Auto Correct?
I just type through the word plus the trigger (space, comma, period) then jump back and change to the misspelling. I then 'go to end of line' (or line down, etc.) As long as I don't enter a trigger at the end of the misspelling it doesn't change (unless your word processor functions differently.)
Regards, Jim

Bravo Chris! Although a bit clunky, it does work. I've found that once I turn off spelling correction and have to quit and restart Eudora to have auto correct start working again. A bit of a hassle, but worth it for my infrequent need to do such a procedure. Glad that worked, Ken! I'm surprised you need to quit and restart Eudora, though -- simply
turning auto correct back on again when I'm done works fine for me. --

Re: How to temporarily turn of TidBITS Auto Correct?
I have Eudora set to Spell check only when requested in settings. That lets me check message and then manually change something if needed. I have also made a few edits in dictionary.

Pasting in from another program doesn't help. AutoCorrect is too
clever for that!
Thank you,
Ken
