Microsoft Word 5.1 for Mac OS X

Are you kidding? I am already drooling at the mouth at the very
thought of the best product MS ever made living once more on my
desktop. I wrote an entire book using 5.1 and swear every time I hit
"clover-shift" something, and have to back up and try interpreting
that damn grade school header bar!

In a "word" - HALLELUJAH!!! M.S-M [Oakland CA]

[Unfortunately, we WERE kidding. That article was in our April Fools issue in 2003. -Adam]

This April Fool's joke had me totally snookered at the time; I sent e-
mails to a bunch of friends and let everyone know in the office were
I was working about the "return" of the beloved 5.1.

Needless to say, take everything that dated April 1 from TidBITS with
a grain of cyber-salt.

Set an ALARM in Calendar:  March 31st. choosing the time carefully.  "Set  the  SPEAKERS  on  L O U D before  retiring."

Another alarm for Apr 1st. 3:30 am with sound.  "Take TidBits with a pinch of  SALT !"

You won't forget.

The Word 5.1 April Fools article was particularly effective (I was
taken in for a while, too, and I knew what time of year it was).

Adam, you might (or might not) want to consider archiving your
wonderful April Fools issues separately from the main archive (or
flagging the hits). Similarly, and it's too late now, building the
CDs with some sort of flag on the search results.

[They are all flagged in the archive... -Adam]

Of course, it is fun to see things like Word 5.1 come back into the
mailing list from time to time.

This will be a pretty good year for the April 1 issue, as the first
is Sunday. Unfortunately, in 2008 it will be Tuesday (darn leap
year), so we miss the perfection of having it fall on the regular
issue day either year.

I'd like to see a series in the next April 01 issue explaining that all
future models of the Mac Book Pro line have been embedded in the Porsche
& Mercedes line. Plain Mac Book in the GM & Ford lines: negotiations
are taking place with a range of manufacturers to get Apple into our
actual lives... That's right folks: Apple are not selling any more
desk bound CPU's at all after April 2008. Who ever heard of being
creative or effective: desk bound?

We may soon be computing from our iPhones via iListen or Dragon to our
desktops in the city we've just left behind for the week:~ ¡ Why Not !
¿ Or something even more interesting, like new Xservers coming
pre-installed in their own satellite bay ? Choice of three orbits.

George
