Retrospect vs. Sparse Disk Image Files

So how does Apple's Backup 3.1 handle sparse disk image files? I back up
mine to iDisk incrementally. Is it really there?

[Since you must select exactly what to backup using Backup, I have to assume that it would do it just fine as long as you create the appropriate custom backup set. The problem exists in Retrospect because you usually ask Retrospect to back up your entire disk, and assume that it will do so. -Adam]

Re: Retrospect vs. Sparse Disk Image Files

Pardon me if I'm only stating the obvious to all you geeks...

In my home directory, I keep a folder of financial data as an
encrypted Disk Image, which I created with Disk Utility. This file
has a ".dmg" suffix. I checked and this IS backed up by Retrospect,
even with the Don't Back Up FileVault Sparseimages option selected.
(I restored the file and opened it with the password and all was OK.)

Looking at Rentzsch's article, apparently it's only files with the
suffix ".sparseimage" that are affected.

Michael
