ExtraBITS

For everyone still subscribed to our Web Crossing-based ExtraBITS weblog, I wanted to reiterate that we won't be using it any more. It was an interim, inelegant, and sometimes buggy solution that has now been replaced by our TidBITS Publishing System. The main downside of this switch is that we have not yet figured out how we want to provide email notification of new articles posted to our home page (about 170 people were receiving email copies of ExtraBITS postings). The best workaround right now is to use our new RSS feed, which is automatically updated whenever articles appear, although you could instead use a Web page monitoring utility (such as Dejal Simon; I'm sure there are many others as well). Eventually, we hope to have an email notification system for new articles in place, but designing and implementing that service remains on the to-do list. Sorry for any inconvenience this change causes!
